ESSINGTON PARK, OBERON

Our day will begin with a morning tea and a welcome from your host Simmone Logue.

Penny will then give some background on where & how to collect, store and prepare willow for weaving, and we will get straight to work to make our beautiful lampshades.

A gorgeously nutritious lunch will be served by Simmone using fruit and vegetables from the organic garden at Essington Park.

After lunch we will continue with our weaving.

Afternoon tea will be served before we break in the afternoon for free time.

We will end our time at the fire pit with locally distilled gin and tonic and a cheese platter.

Course Outline:

Cane & Tissue Paper Lantern Making

Overview

A hands-on workshop exploring the art of creating simple sculptural lanterns using flexible cane, tissue paper, and dried leaves for final decoration. Suitable for complete beginners and more experienced makers.

Introduction & Materials

Understanding your materials and tools: cane and its preparation, tissue paper and thin glue.

Basic Cane Techniques

Using soaked cane we will learn fundamental bending and shaping methods
Creating simple geometric frames: spheres, cubes, cylinders
Joining techniques: binding, taping, and weaving intersections

Take Home:

A completed decorative lantern ready to display, along with the skills to create more in your own style.
